GIS Base layers
For most GIS applications background layers are needed as references to the existing site topography.
Aquaterra developed MultiNetRaster (MNR) mapping of Belgium for such purposes. This is a set of maps with all the streets of Belgium at multiple scales.
Another example of this base layer may be an old map by Popp (about 1850). It shows the land use in Flanders at the creation of Belgium and can be considered the cadastral reference source.
